Do you ever worry when you are backing up in your vehicle that you could hit something, or worse, hit SOMEONE? Do you HATE to parallel park because you are afraid that you may hit the car behind you? Well add a back up safety system to your vehicle and those worries will be gone.
What is a back up safety system?
Back up safety systems give you either an audible alert if something is behind you or visual image of what’s behind you. No more ‘blind spots” right behind you. These types of systems are now coming as a factory installed option on some of the larger and more expensive vehicles, but with the new aftermarket kits that are available, you can add these safety systems to any vehicle
How does the audible system work?
An audible system uses two to four sensors installed in the rear of the vehicle that give you an audible tone if something is behind you. The tone increases in loudness and/or duration as your vehicle gets closer to the object behind you. The range is up to 10 feet behind and up to 180 degree coverage, depending on the system, the vehicle and number of sensors installed. We recommend two sensor systems for small to mid size cars and trucks and four sensor systems for larger vehicles, trucks and SUV’s.
How does a Visual back up system work?
A visual back up system works by using a camera system to project the image of what is behind you to a monitor you can see as you are backing up.
How can I add a visual back up safety system?
1. Adding a backup camera to an existing in dash monitor with a video input. The cameras images will come on your in dash screen as soon as you put the vehicle in reverse.
2. Adding a backup camera to a factory navigation screen. This can be done on select factory systems and would require the purchase of a separate video interface.
2. Adding a kit that includes the camera and a small stand alone monitor or adding a kit that comes with a replacement rear view mirror that has a small monitor built in. These systems can be installed in almost any car. The image will be seen on the screen only when the car is in reverse.
3. Adding a vehicle specific kit. These types of kits have everything you need to install the system in a specific make and model vehicle. The number of these kits made for specific vehicles is limited, so check out your vehicle on our fit chart to see if there is a kit available for your vehicle.
Installing a back up safety system on your vehicle will give you the peace of mind to know that you will not have to worry about hitting anything or anyone as you back out of your driveway, a parking spot or even that tricky maneuver we all hate, parallel parking!
